While preparing our trip to Cuba, I referenced a lot of my girlfriend Nanda’s itinerary from a trip to Havana she took a few years back, way before the country opened back up to American tourism. One place I absolutely wanted to check out from her recommendations list was Papito’s private salon and hairdressing museum, Arte Corte. An odd little spot to get your hair cut and explore Cuban oddities, it is hidden somewhere on Aguiar 10 in Old Havana. I don’t know why, but it called my name. Unfortunately, as soon as we got to Havana after Guanabo, I was glued to my bed for a full two days. On one of their first strolls in the city (without me), the girls ran into a hairdresser from LA who was working locally at the salon and they were lured in to discover this whimsical place I had dreamed about. You snooze, you lose! I guess I will have to go back… In the meantime, I can live vicariously through Ali’s amazing images.
